The Counsel of Moscow regional economic department on issues of intellectual property/fight against counterfeit products used the meeting of French producers with their Russian colleagues to conduct a conference on fight against piracy of audiovisual works at 10 am on Friday, October 21.
On this occasion an advocate from Price Water Corporation presented Russian copyright law and legal instruments for right holders. Thereupon two experts from WebKontrol and Group-IB spoke on existing IT solutions in the sphere of copyright infringements’ research and their detection.

Social networks are increasingly being used to spread copyrighted content but rather than take down infringing items individually, entertainment companies would like to take a broader approach. Should copyright holders be allowed to wipe out communities with millions of members to protect copyright?

When I moved to Russia, I was astonished by the pervasiveness of Internet piracy. Movies, music, software, books — everything was at my fingertips, free of charge and in the language of my choice. When my Russian friends learned that I pay for a Netflix account, they burst out laughing. Why, they asked, would I pay for something that is available for free?
